Explain shaft earthing? why is it important ?

shaft earthng is provided to ground the static electricity produced on the shaft..if it is nt grounded it ll get discharged on the weakest part of shaft i.e bearing and pitting ll ocur in the bearing so inorder to ground the static curent we have a coper band on the main shaft, carbon brushes ,carbon brush holder and slip rings...when the shaft rotates the carbon brushes colect the curent and it is transferd to the hull by wires..
